Soup & Bread Suppers
Calvary’s monthly soup and bread suppers are generally held on the fourth Thursday from October through April and bring the community together for warm meals and fellowship. A variety of hearty homemade soups and breads are served with all free will proceeds donated to organizations making a difference in our area. Join us in sharing food, and friendship at our next soup supper!

A Short History of Ken’s Kitchen and the Calvary Soup & Bread Suppers
The concept of the Calvary Soup Supper ministry was a dream of Ken Wiggin. Ken and his wife Karen Lawsing came to Calvary in 2009 and Ken became a vestry member shortly thereafter.
Ken had the idea that we could renovate our small kitchen to a much more open and functional space in order to serve soup once a month to our community. A kitchen renovation effort was launched, donations of time and talent were forthcoming, and by early 2011 Calvary had a new and serviceable kitchen complete with new sink, cupboards, an open serving counter, and a unique crock pot counter with a strip of electrical outlets to accommodate them.
The concept of the Soup and Bread Suppers was: soup and bread provided and served by members of the congregation. Each month a local charity would be chosen for a free will offering, but there would never be a charge for the food. All monies collected would go directly to the local charities. At the time of the official launch in early 2011 there were three other area churches who joined in our effort of serving some form of dinner once a month as well. The thought being that there would be a meal available to the food insecure every week.
Tragically, Ken passed away while waiting for heart surgery in September 2011. The congregation was unanimous in the decision to name our kitchen after Ken as a memorial for his foresight and caring for folks in need.
Since the start of our Soup and Bread Supper initiative we have raised over $33,000 for local charities. We are also the last remaining local church to offer a monthly supper.
We only paused this mission during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. As we restarted, we decided to only offer these meals during the winter season. From October through April, generally the last Thursday of the month, we are carrying on in the good spirit of Ken!
